Piedmont Food & Wine

Piedmont
presented by Simon and Julia Barnaby

Piedmont, translated as “the foot of the mountains”, is situated in the north western corner of Italy, bordered by the French and Swiss Alps. Simon and Julia Barnaby run Piedmont Food and Wine (including the Piedmont Wine Club), working with a dedicated team of colleagues based in both Piedmont and London. The Piedmont Wine Club is a specialist importer of outstanding red, white, rose and sparkling wines from the Langhe, Roero and Monferrato regions in Southern Piedmont. The wines have all been carefully selected from artisan producers, most of which are not available elsewhere in the UK. This tasting provides an opportunity to taste and learn about these wines, which include Barolo, Barbaresco, Barbera, Gavi, Arneis and Moscato.

They will present the following selection of some of the best known wines from the famous wine regions of Piedmont. And also will provide a small selection of traditional cheese and meats to compliment each of the wines.

Brut Spumante .......... Dry sparking White
Gavi dei Gavi .......... One of Italy's most famous dry white wines
Roero Arneis ........... Delicious ‘up and coming’ fruity white wine
Dolchetto .............. Smooth and fruity ‘every day’ red
Barbera D'Asti ......... Popular red wine, great with typical Italian food
Barbaresco ............. One of Italy's finest red wine
Barolo ................. The most famous Italian red, known as 'The King' of Wines
Brachetto d’Acqui ...... A light, refreshing, sparking aperitif or desert wine

Simon and Julia also arrange tours and short gourmet breaks to meet the producers, visit the vineyards and cellars and taste the wines in Piedmont. This can be combined with cookery classes, truffle hunting (the famous white truffle comes from this region) or fine dining.
