Douro with David Carter

On the older terrace vineyards of the Douro valley it is not unusual to find as many as 30 different grape varieties planted together for port production.

The recent desire of many of those producers to create world-class table wines as well as port, has led to new plantings of single varietals in selected sites which are slightly more accessible. With riper, site-specific fruit, what character does each variety bring to a blended wine?

David has selected examples of single varietal and blended wines from some top producers to illustrate what each contributes to the whole. There will be a couple of white blends but the focus of the evening will be on the reds. Among the wines will be a Touriga Nacional, Touriga Franca and two strikingly different examples of Tinta Roriz, otherwise known as Tempranillo.
