Charlemagne Wine Club - 2009 Tastings

Monday 16th February 2009
Cool climate Australia presented by Christos Ioannou

"Australia is a hot, arid country all of whose wines are overoaked and lacking in subtlety!" Is this really the style of wines currently being produced in this country? Or have the Aussies learnt some lessons from their European cousins and adapted their winemaking accordingly? To find out come along to this month's tasting but be prepared to have your prejudices challenged.

Christos took part in the Circle of Wine Writers study tour to Australia last November and will be telling us the latest news about what's going on Down Under. He will be sharing with us photos from his trip, and by showing some of the wines he tasted on tour will aim to demonstrate that there is more to Australian wine than how it is often perceived.

After a 20 year detour into marine insurance, Christos realized that at least half a career spent doing something that he really enjoyed was better than nothing! After completing his WSET Diploma, Christos set up a company, Criterion Wine, to organize wine events. Christos also works with a travel company who tailor make wine tours to all parts of France and beyond. He has been a Judge at the IWSC since 2002.
