Charlemagne Wine Club - 2012 Tastings
Monday 20th February 2012
presented by Christos Ioannou
Bordeaux en primeur prices for the last two vintages have rocketed and the top Classed Growths have become unaffordable to all but the super-rich. And even some Cru Bourgeois are commanding prices that would have been unthinkable a few years ago. So if we want to carry on enjoying the delights that Bordeaux has to offer where do we go? Is it possible to find good Bordeaux at affordable prices and is there still value to be had from this region?
Christos will be showing a couple of dry whites, a few reds and a sweet white to finish. After which you can decide whether Bordeaux is still affordable or not!
Christos has been a member of Charlemagne for 16 years and was rash enough to turn a passion into a 2nd career. A member of the Association of Wine Educators and of the Circle of Wine Writers, he has also been a Judge at The International Wine Challenge since 2002. Through his company Criterion Wine he organises tours in France and around the world. From 2012 Christos will be offering more tours in conjunction with long-standing Charlemagne member Sandy Leckie in a new venture called Wine Voyages. For a list of tours planned for next year see: www.winevoyages.co.uk . The next tour is another popular weekend trip to Champagne 30th March - 1st April.
