Charlemagne Wine Club - 2018 Tastings

Monday 19 February 2018

The Wine Behind The Label with David Carter

In a specially focused evening, we will be tasting popular single grape varieties and blends from around the world.

We will be comparing two New Zealand Sauvignon Blancs, two Malbecs from either side of the Andes, two Syrah/Shiraz from opposite ends of the Earth and finishing with two Riojas of very different ages and winemaking methods. There will also be a dessert Sauvignon Blanc to refresh any jaded palates.

How can we tell what's behind the label and in the bottle? One bottle can look pretty much like another but what will it actually taste like? How does location or age affect what we might expect from a familiar grape variety? How can we be confident that the bottle we choose will be perfect for that special occasion? It's not as technical as it sounds and if you don't want to get too involved in the details they're still good wines to enjoy!

We want to encourage those who might feel overwhelmed by their apparent lack of wine knowledge to come along and take the step, that we all did, to feeling a little more secure with our own personal choices. To that end we are reducing the cost of this specific tasting to just £15, thanks to an investment of club funds.

BRING YOUR FRIENDS ALONG. YOU WON'T GET A BETTER VALUE TASTING ANYWHERE.
