Charlemagne Wine Club - 2017 Tastings

Bolney Wine Estate, Sussex

’English wine has come a long way. You don’t have to.’

English wine is currently riding high, with coverage in the national press, top awards from the major competitions and representation on wine lists from airlines to top restaurants. At the forefront of this trend are the wines of Bolney Wine Estate, in the heart of rural Sussex.

The estate was established in 1972 by Janet and Rodney Pratt, and was one of the first commercial vineyards in England. It is now run by their daughter Sam Linter, who is also chief winemaker.

The estate provides the only English wine served at Wimbledon All England Tennis Club, while British Airways recently listed the sparkling Blanc de Blanc 2013 in their First class on flights, which we will be tasting on the 19th. It’s delightful - fruity, elegant and with great depth.

We will also taste a range of their other wines, including a 2014 Pinot Noir, a spicy and aromatic white blend, a rosé (’summer in a bottle’) and a red blend - ’the wine you wouldn’t believe is from England.

Do join us for an interesting, educational and, most importantly, tasty evening!
