Rioja presented by John Douglas
With a succession of good vintages and a lot of recent investment, it is time for us to return to look at the wines of Spain and in particular Rioja.
Situated in the Ebro valley in the north and covering a relatively small area, the 3 sub-regions have differing types of soil and climatic conditions which affect the development of the vines, resulting in the distinctive characteristics that we have come to know as Rioja.
John Douglas is a passionate advocate of Spanish wines and has selected two white wines which have been aged (crianza) and six red wines, all of which are either reserva or gran reserva. The wines are from a range of producers to demonstrate the diversity of style within the region.
