Following his in-depth look at the sauvignons and pinots of Seresin Estate in New Zealand last month, David Carter is bringing us closer to home in February with a selection of wines from Germany. It’s a country we have neglected over recent years, and it’s well overdue a close look.
Germany is rightly recognised for the quality and diversity of its Riesling wines but it is not just a single grape variety producer nor is it just a white wine producer. I still remember a privileged tasting I had some years ago of a 1937 Spätburgunder/Pinot Noir. It was still alive and delicious at 70+ years. While we can’t promise anything quite that old we will have a selection of less well known grape varieties, and some unexpected but familiar varieties from some of the warmer German vineyard areas. We will be sampling the flavours of Pinot Noir, Dornfelder, Trollinger, Lemberger, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot as well as Sauvignon Blanc, Gewürtztraminer and Chardonnay, from the Pfalz, Rheingau, Württemberg and Baden
Do join us to enjoy some lovely wines and good company!
