As the Summer draws to a close please join us as we head south to the warm and fertile valleys of Chile for our next tasting.
Chile has many natural advantages for organic farming. Its numerous valleys are flanked by the Andes to the east and the Pacific to the west. It also has the Atacama desert to the north and …. to the south, the Antarctic!
Spanish conquistadors were the first to plant vines in Chile, in 1544, making it one of the oldest wine cultures in the New World. At the end of the 1990s, Rafael and José Guilisasti, together with visionary winemaker Álvaro Espinoza, began converting a conventional Chilean winery into a 100% organic and biodynamic winery. Emiliana Organic Vineyards is now one of the world’s most important producers of organic and biodynamic wines and the largest in South America. We will be tasting from the range of wines produced by Emiliana, and overseen by Espinoza, in a number of different regions including the legendary Coyam, along with several wines from Espinoza’s own estate, Antiyal.
