WINES OF THE FRENCH ALPS with Wink Lorch
The waiting’s over and we’re looking forward to resuming the tasting programme after our enforced break. To start it off we’ll be visiting an area better known to skiers than to wine lovers. It is a pleasure to welcome author and wine educator Wink Lorch back to Charlemagne. Wink has been living in Savoie for many years and following on from her award winning book on the wines of the Jura, has now written about her home patch, five little-known wine regions in eastern France: Savoie, Bugey, Isere, Die and Hautes-Alpes. These are mountain areas and the influence of the mountains on the wines is important, creating a freshness and purity of fruit which is put to good use by talented producers. Wink will be showing wines from her personal collection, provided she hasn’t drunk them during lockdown! There will be 2 sparkling, 4 whites and 3 reds from Savoie and Bugey to tickle your tastebuds.
Copies of both of her books will be available to buy at a special price of £20. They’re not just about the wine but also about the food, places to visit and stay, and the history of the regions.
