David Carter will be looking at Grenache (or is it Garnacha, or Cannonau, or ….?) and sharing with us a range of wines from around the world to show its versatility and what lovely wines it makes. He sums it up neatly below.
It’s a grape that comes in three shades, Blanc, Gris and Noir. There’s also a hairy variety but that’s another story!
Grenache, aka Garnacha, may have its origin in Spain but it’s probably better known for providing a significant contribution to the wines from the Southern Rhône. Its spicy and aromatic character is also put to good use in the winelands of Australia where it has a long history in the production of GSM blends and fortified wines.
We’ll be tasting wines from Priorat and Rioja in Spain; Tavel, Vacqueyras and Banyuls in France; and from Italy, South Africa and Australia.
