This month we welcome our old friend Christos Ioannou with some delicious wines from Greece.
The Greek wine scene has undergone a complete revolution in the last 25 years as dozens of quality-focused wineries have started up. The renaissance in Greece’s wine industry has been a joy to behold, and the world is only just starting to appreciate the quality and diversity on offer. The huge range of indigenous grape varieties is enough to tempt any wine lover looking for something different.
Leaving behind a 20 year career in marine insurance, Christos completed his WSET Diploma in 2003 and became a member of the Association of Wine Educators in 2005. Through his company, Criterion Wine Tours, he organises 5-6 wine tours every year all over the world, and has run 4 different and distinctive wine tours in Greece alone. So he knows a thing or two about Greek wine! Christos will guide us through a tasting of Greek wines from indigenous varietals, and will give us a few clues about how to pronounce the grape names!
Monday 9th December: Douglas Harrison rounds off the year in style with Right Bank Bordeaux. Several properties including one with an association with Charlemagne (The Emperor) and a Grand Cru Classé St Émilion. As it’s almost Christmas there will also be a few nibbles provided by Harrison’s Deli. Get your bookings in early to avoid disappointment ….. and so that we can open a second bottle of each wine!
