2025 – October: Northern Portugal

Northern Portugal – The Art of Blending

Monday 20 October Start: 8pm
Upstairs at The Forester, 2 Leighton Road, W13 9EP

If you were to ask the “ordinary man/woman in the street” to name any Portuguese wine style they would most likely identify Vinho Verde or Port, if at all.  Ask further what grape variety or varieties go into these wines and there would be many blank stares.  This is not really surprising as Portugal has over 250 indigenous grape varieties, many with almost unpronounceable names.

Fortunately this is not a problem for Portuguese winemakers who celebrate the rich diversity of flavours and aromas these different grapes produce and have developed the skills, over many generations, to know which varieties work best together.

We will be looking at just a few of these varieties, found in the wines of the Vinho Verde region of Minho, and the Douro, the oldest demarcated wine appellation in the world.  There will be single varietals and blends of these grapes to indicate how the whole may be greater than the sum of its parts!  Come along and see if you agree.
Still at the excellent price of £25 payable on the door, cash preferred . Bookings, as usual, via email.

In the pipeline: tastings from Ealing Wine Cellars, Czech wines, and wines from Slovakia. If you have any other regions, grapes, producers you’d like to taste …. let us know.

Details on attending CWC tastings can be found on our About CWC wine tastings page.
