17th March 2025
Join us on March 17th for some delicious dry Riesling and juicy Pinot Noir wines from Germany..
More than 100 years ago, the term “Hock” was associated with German Riesling wines of the highest quality. Beloved of Queen Victoria, they were sold at a much higher price than the famous red wines of Bordeaux and were simply considered the best white wines in the world.
Unfortunately, after a couple of wars, Liebfraumilch (other brands were available!) came along, and German wines have since been stuck with the image of being sweet and sickly! This is far from the truth as we will show in this tasting which features ethereal, dry, mineral-driven wines with a delicate balance of fruit and acidity from Erste Gewächs and Grosse Gewächs vineyards (Premier and Grand Cru – in French terms, with prices to match).
Germany is also the world’s third largest producer of Spätburgunder (Pinot Noir) wines and stands proudly on the stage with exquisite and elegant, velvety, cherry, berry and subtle earthy spice flavours. Burgundy, eat your heart out!
Come along and taste the difference
